Could she believe in herself when no one else did? A progressive thinker in 1892 Montana, Delphina O´Connor believed God-given dreams for women didn´t stop at marriage and children. Hers might not include a husband or family at all. So when Hugh Thomas rescues the new swimming instructor at the elegant Broadwater Natatorium from near drowning in the plunge, how can anyone believe the freedom to enjoy swimming, competition, and a healthy body is an appropriate activity for a proper lady? Hugh is about to find out status quo is the starting line for a courageous woman with a dream! Taking the Plunge explores the real-world question: What do you do when you think differently than the world around you? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Tristan Leder. Lady Bette, the 14-year-old heiress to the vast Northumberland estates, becomes the victim of a plot by her grandmother, the Countess Howard, to marry her to the dissident fortune-hunter Thomas Thynn, a man three times her age with an evil reputation. Revolted by her new husband, Lady Bette flees to Holland. Within weeks, Thynn is gunned down in the street by three hired assassins. Who is behind the contract killing? Is it the Swedish Count Coningsmark, young and glamorous with blond hair down to his waist? Or is it a political assassination as the anti-Catholic press maintains? Thynn was, after all, a key player in the Protestant faction to exclude the Catholic James, Duke of York, as his brother Charles II´s successor. N.A. Pickford creates a world of tension and insecurity, of constant plotting and counter-plotting and of rabid anti-Catholicism, where massive street demonstrations and public Papal burnings are weekly events. The action moves from the great landed estates of Syon and Petworth to the cheap taverns and brothels of London, and finally to Newgate and the gallows - the sporting spectacle of the day. In the process, the book gives us a vivid and deeply researched portrait of Restoration society. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Katie Scarfe. If you stumbled on a witch, are you sure you could spot her? What if she came in the form of a sweet old lady sporting sweats? So begins the witchy, wondrous debut novel certain to warm your soul and give it shivers at the same heart-thumping time. With a smouldering cauldron of quirky witches, wayward ghosts, sarcastic pets - and an awkward male sidekick - this tale of two covens offers delightful new ways to separate the good witch from the bad. When Amy and her one-eared, one-eyed cat Scruff escape her abusive great aunt, their getaway car is sent hurtling through a tunnel by a wave of water, and her simple plan goes awry in ways Amy could never have conjured. What follows is a series of curious circumstances, particularly the strange ways of the elderly Milly and her sweatsuit-clad friends. Together, they form the OLDGALS - Old Ladies Doing Good And Loving Sweats. When a trio of evil witches confront them, a fierce battle begins. Can Amy triumph over evil - and perhaps even find superhuman romance? For Amy and friends, it´s an action-packed, magical ride that´s as bumpy a ride as witch´s broom, and always brimming over with spine-tingling surprises. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Abby Elvidge. ´´Mrs. Pollifax gives Agatha Christie´s Miss Marple a rival to reckon with.´´-Toronto Star If you make it across the border, get us help. Some of us care. Do you understand? Right now we desperately need passports and identity papers. The arrests grow insane. At the very hour this message was en route to the CIA, Mrs. Pollifax was waiting for her night-blooming cereus to do its thing. She hardly got to see it, however, because Mr. Carstairs was already on his way to recruit that gallant lady for another daring mission. Soon the most unlikely of all international spies was sporting a beautiful new hat-perfect for hiding eight forged passports. ´´Mrs. Pollifax is an enchantress.´´-The New York Times
Pat Summitt was an American college basketball head coach whose 1,098 career wins are the most in NCAA basketball history. She served as the head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team from 1974 to 2012, before retiring at age 59 because of a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer´s disease. She won eight NCAA championships (a NCAA women´s record when she retired), a number surpassed only by the 10 titles won by UCLA men´s coach John Wooden and the 11 titles won by UConn women´s coach Geno Auriemma. She was the first NCAA coach, and one of four college coaches overall, with at least 1,000 wins. Summitt also won two Olympic medals: a gold as head coach of the 1984 US women´s basketball team and a silver as a player on the 1976 team. She was named the Naismith Basketball Coach of the Century in 2000. In 2009, the Sporting News placed her at number 11 on its list of the 50 Greatest Coaches of All Time in all sports; she was the only woman on the list. In 38 years as a coach, she never had a losing season. In 2012, Summitt was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama and received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2012 ESPY Awards. 1. Language: English. Narrator: James H.
